Securing affordable, reliable small business health insurance for your business is a top priority. As an employer, providing your workers with quality medical coverage helps you attract and retain the best talent. Reliable health insurance offered through work is a smart, practical way to keep employees healthy, happy and productive.

How Does Group Health Insurance Work?

By law, employers with fewer than 50 employees are not required to offer health insurance, but most want to. There are basically two ways to secure coverage for your business: through individual health insurance or group health insurance.

Small group health insurance is available to all businesses with between 2 – 49 employees. As an alternative to group coverage, you can offer employees the option to buy individual insurance to cover themselves and their families.

Group Health Insurance Made Simple.

Group health insurance is employer-sponsored medical coverage with costs shared between employer and employee. That means you contribute to employee premiums. Monthly premiums are determined by the insurance company, with rates based on a variety of factors including, how much an employer contributes, size and location of your company, and even the age of your employees. Group health insurance coverage is guaranteed issue, and can be extended to dependents.

Plans are typically offered as one of four types:

  1. PPO Health Insurance Plans
  2. HMO Health Insurance Plans
  3. HSA Qualified Health Insurance Plans
  4. Indemnity Health Insurance Plans

Individual Health Insurance as an Option

If group coverage is too costly, individual health insurance is always an option. With individual coverage, employees can decide for themselves how much coverage they need based on individual and family needs.

Individual/ Business Health Insurance Eligibility

All businesses are eligible for small business health insurance as long as they employ between 2 and 50 employees who work at least 30 hours per week. Eligibility for individual health insurance is subject to medical underwriting, and applicants may be denied due to a medical condition.
